The Social Status: Betwixt’d and Between

I was online reading… and this kinda stuck with me, as I’m going through an “online class” for the betterment and my desire to make my business grow, I kept thinking of how this will benefit my future clients and business associates.

What I was reading, made me think of how we are using the Internet Tools we find online and why some work and some don’t. Two types of groups come to mind.  The IMers and the Cool Kids.

Now you may associate the IMers as “geeks” playing with new web/internet tools, finding the best of what works for “them” and then making a bold move to use it, stand by it, share it and capitalize on it.

And the Cool Kids as … yes, still being cool, out there on the scene, making noise with sharing this and that, showing you links to use, but hey, are they leading you to success or just showing you how to follow?

What may differ in the worlds of Internet Marketing people (IMers) and the Cool Kids (People generally sharing the use of web/internet tool conversation) is that one makes money working with the tools and the other makes noise moving the tools.

The IMers tap into a whole bunch of core values that the Cool Kids can’t stand – what’s funny is that the Cool Kids get damned upset at the IMers, and the IMers are just shrugging and saying, “Sorry you feel that way,” while sipping champagne in first class.

If you’re going to make money, no matter what you do, no matter what your business is, you have to learn to set aside the crap that makes you have “knee-jerk reactions” and just get with it. Learn from others, no matter who they are, take the good, and leave off what doesn’t work for you. Just cause it didn’t work for you, doesn’t mean you failed as a business person. Grow your business foundation, like you grow your garden in real life. Grow and develop what is best for your taste.  IF you are stumped by a social media network, not to worry, there are many out there to choose from. Getting lost in the crowd of top Social Networking contenders may not be the right move for you and your business. Many of the smaller social networks offer a venue of customers to be discovered.

As for me, I’m in the middle. Not an IMer, not a Cool Kid. You won’t see me doing ‘nothing’ very often. I guess it’s the entreprenuerial spirit pecking away at my conscious. I feel guilty if I’m not doing something productive.  But I’m doing just fine, doing what works for me. Stick with a system that works, don’t jump the gun, just cause it looks like a good target.

To sum up, you don’t need a whole lot of web tools in your belt, to be a business success. Use what works for you and know the difference of what works for others, may not be the “spice” to add in making your business grow.

Or as Granny use to say, “Too many spoons, in the pot, spoil your soup”.

SEO ~ Give and Ye Shall Recieve

Search Engine Optimization  Everyone is trying to get in on the “Search of a lifetime” with the popular SEO’s.

What is an SEO?  Search Engine Optimization is defined as:
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural,” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”), search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search,[1] news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Their customers and Your potential customers use search engines. Most Internet users find new websites through search engines. Your job as a website owner is to make sure that customers find your website instead of the sites of your competitors.  Most searchers never look further than page one.75% of searchers never look further than page one on the search engine page.  You have to make sure that you are being seen and click able on that first page.

Search engines want to show useful websites with a lot of content in the search results. As the absolute minimum, your website should have 6 pages. The more pages your website has, the better.  Search engines must be able to find out what your website is about.

That means that each page should have at least 200 words of visible text. Flash content and text on images usually doesn’t lead to high rankings. Your web pages should be optimized for search engines but they should also look attractive to human web surfers.

Mentions of your website on social media websites can positively influence your search engine rankings and they can also deliver targeted visitors to your website.  For that reason, you should make it as easy as possible for your visitors to mention your website on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter.  Trusted domains are powerful domains. When you have trust, from users and search engines, you’re on the way to search marketing success.

Speaking of Social Media …why should you add a “Like” button on your website?  Viability is everything on the internet.  By adding a Facebook Like with your business fan page, you add credibility to your website content. If many other people have clicked the like button on your website, people tend to trust your website more.

I’m sure you have read on several of my blogs that content is key.  Now I want you to be aware of how to get back links, which is a referral back to your website. Social media websites usually add backlinks to your website when your website is shared by a “user” of the social media site. These backlinks can contribute to the search engine rankings of your site.  It’s very important that you leave folks wanting to share your website content.
